A Passion for Teaching and Tutoring

Growing up in a family where education and community were always held in high importance, this led me into a career that I am passionate about: teaching and tutoring. Initially working in the banking sector, in part due to my love of mathematics, I realised that I wanted to pursue my ambition to teach. Earning my teaching qualification at Bretton Hall College, The University of Leeds, I gained a B.Ed. (Hons) degree, enabling me to specialise within Primary and Middle education.

Working in Yorkshire schools, I spent 20 plus years teaching, supporting and inspiring children through their primary school years. Taking time out of teaching to help raise my two children, I used my teaching skills in the community, working in the voluntary sector alongside Speech and Language Therapists, supporting and developing communication, speech, writing and reading skills, with people experiencing aphasia as a result of a stroke. This was an incredibly rewarding experience, which eventually led me back to education and a return to teaching full-time.

Throughout my teaching career, I ran afterschool clubs, organised school events and worked with hundreds of children, all of which have helped deepen my understanding of the skills students need to succeed. I now bring this knowledge directly into my tutoring sessions today.

Now that my own children are older, I have the flexibility and focus to run my tutoring company full-time. My purpose is to work with the whole child, not merely the academics, thus developing their confidence, self-esteem and realising their full potential. I aim to make the core subjects of Mathematics and English both understandable and enjoyable, enabling students to thrive in these areas.

Having the ability to work with individual children and watching their confidence and understanding grow has been incredibly rewarding, and I consider it a privilege to be part of their educational journey.
